Two million people dressed in white on Copacabana beach watching fireworks over the sea at midnight. One of the world's largest New Year's Eve celebrations, free and outdoors. The tradition of offering flowers to the sea (to Iemanjá, the candomblé sea goddess) gives it a dimension that goes beyond mass tourism.
