The re-enactment of the great Inca ceremony of the austral winter solstice at Sacsayhuamán. The most important event in the Andean calendar, with thousands of participants in ceremonial costumes and a theatrical representation that occupies the entire fortress enclosure. June 24 is a national holiday in Peru and Cusco fills completely — book accommodation months in advance if you plan to be there.
