Flower Festival (Feria de las Flores)

The most important event in Medellín. The Silleteros Parade is the heart of the festival: Antioquian peasants descend from the hillsides carrying silletas — flower structures weighing up to 80kg — in a 3km procession through the city centre streets. Each silleta can have more than 100 different flowers. The festival lasts ten days with concerts, orchid exhibitions, vintage car rallies and a fair. August is expensive and crowded, but the Flower Festival is one of those experiences that justifies booking six months in advance.
