Nine days in which Phuket Old Town transforms into a Taoist religious festival of an intensity you absolutely didn't expect. Processions with penitents piercing their cheeks with metal objects, offering altars on every corner and incense covering the Old Town are a completely different experience from Phuket's usual tourist image. Strictly vegetarian for all nine days.
